Restorative dentistry in Courtenay, BC
When teeth are damaged by decay, disease, or injury, prompt restorative care prevents further complications. Filling a cavity early avoids a root canal; addressing decay on time avoids an extraction. We restore function and appearance using the most conservative approach that works.
All fillings at Crown Isle Dental are tooth-colored, mercury-free, and BPA-free - a standard we have held since 1996. We use digital 3D imaging and intraoral scanning for precise restorations that fit right the first time.
Tooth-colored composite fillings
We use BPA-free composite resin to fill cavities. Compared to old-fashioned silver amalgam, composite fillings are smaller and require removing less healthy tooth structure. They bond directly to the tooth, which actually strengthens it and helps prevent chips and cracks. The result is natural-looking and invisible when you smile.
Dental crowns
A crown fully covers a damaged tooth down to the gum line, protecting it so it can continue functioning for years. We typically recommend a crown when a tooth is badly worn or broken, when decay is too extensive for a filling, or after a root canal. Digital impressions replace messy traditional molds, and your crown is precision-milled by a dental lab for a natural fit and shade.
Dental bridges
A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth without surgery. It uses crowns on the healthy teeth on either side of the gap to anchor a replacement tooth in between. Bridges are a non-surgical alternative to implants and are often a good choice when the neighboring teeth already need crowns. We will walk you through all the options so you can decide what makes the most sense for your situation.
Root canal therapy
When the inner nerve of a tooth becomes infected or inflamed, a root canal removes the damaged tissue, cleans and seals the canal, and saves the tooth from extraction. The procedure is done under local anesthetic and is typically no more uncomfortable than a filling. It is followed by a crown to protect the restored tooth long-term.
Implant-retained dentures
For patients replacing multiple missing teeth, implant-retained dentures provide a stable, secure fit that traditional dentures cannot match. We handle the planning and final restoration in-house, coordinating the surgical phase with trusted local oral surgeons. The result is a denture that stays in place and functions like natural teeth.

Restorative dentistry FAQs
Are your fillings mercury-free?
Yes. Crown Isle Dental has placed only tooth-colored, mercury-free, BPA-free composite fillings since 1996. We do not place silver amalgam fillings.
How long does a dental crown take?
Crown placement typically requires two appointments. At the first visit we prepare the tooth and place a temporary crown. At the second visit, usually 2 to 3 weeks later, we fit and cement the final porcelain crown.
What is the difference between a crown and a filling?
A filling repairs a small to moderate area of decay within a tooth. A crown fully covers the tooth down to the gum line and is used when decay or damage is too extensive for a filling, or when the tooth has had a root canal and needs structural protection.
Is a dental bridge a good alternative to an implant?
A bridge can be an excellent option for replacing a missing tooth, particularly when the adjacent teeth already need crowns. It is non-surgical and typically completed in two appointments. We will review all options with you so you can make an informed decision.
Does a root canal hurt?
Root canals are performed under local anesthetic and most patients report the procedure is no more uncomfortable than a filling. The goal is to relieve the pain of an infected or inflamed nerve, not cause it.
Does Crown Isle Dental accept dental insurance for restorative work?
Yes. We work with most major dental insurance plans and follow the BC Dental Association fee guide. We provide a clear treatment plan with costs before any work begins.
